Dear Hamdan,
What do you mean by: “publish by fraud”?
Publishing in predatory journal, while they think that it is a legitimate international journal?

Nova also specializes in reprints of U.S. Government Publications. For example they published a “book” titled “Land Use, Transportation and Environmental Quality: Interactions and Smart Growth Strategies” last year (cost is $195.00). The table of contents lists a preface, 2 chapters, and an index. The two chapters are: Our Built and Natural Environments: A Technical Review of the Interactions Among Land Use, Transportation, and Environmental Quality (Second Edition) and Creating Equitable, Healthy, and Sustainable Communities: Strategies for Advancing Smart Growth, Environmental Justice, and Equitable Development. Both of these publications are available on the EPA web site (www.epa.gov/smartgrowth/built.htm and http://www.epa.gov/smartgrowth/equitable_development_report.htm). When I checked last week, GPO had not cataloged one of them, but it was cataloged after I submitted it through LostDocs. Institutions that select these EPA publications will most likely provide them electronically rather than in print. Thus, the electronic versions will be more useful and accessible than a book on the shelf.

I have often claimed fraud by Mrs. Columbus and her operation, Nova Science Publishers. Finally, my claims have been suported. Her professional response: to unleash her lawyers on me for trying to reveal the facts. Mrs Columbus, the facts speak for themselves. Unfortunately, while the scientific community is being scammed, you are getting rich, at the expense of the intellect of the scientific community. This is the real tragedy. As for LAP, another sham, it draws in inexperienced MSc and PhD students to republish their theses disguised as books to draw revenues through Amazon, but often those theses have already been published. It is basically making money off self-plagiarism. I have absolutely nothing positive to say about these two fraudulent, shameful “publishers”.

“and by licensing their journal management software, a product called e-submit”
My initial impression is that the journal management software looks very good (and also the typesetting) .
I cannot say anything about the life science journals but for now the buisness model looks interesting.
Maybe is good to give them time to grow.
About the name of the publisher- Smith and Franklin sounds not so suspicios to the typical european promotion reviewer …
Name like Muhammad and someone_else_with_arab_name will imediately lead to “special atttention” even if a journal is with impact factor.
Especialy in eastern Europe even publisher’s name like hindawi causes such feelings. Islamophobia and eurocentrism is alive and kicking here- wellcome to the real world!!! No publisher has a chance with a name without franklin’s and smith’s or at least something german or latin

A few days ago, I received a spam from them, saying The Journal of Advances in Linguistics (JAL) has an Impact Factor of 1.013

Actually, this new journal was just started in January 2014 (Yet, it has published 3 volumes!)

It doesn’t have any impact factor.

It’s really shameless to tell a lie and try to cheat others!
It’s the worst journal I’ve ever seen!

My understanding is that a journal usually publishes one volume in a year.
So, why does JAL (The Journal of Advances in Linguistics) publishes 3 volumes in just 4 months?

That’s because as a new journal started in January of 2014, it tries to look more established than it really is.

And if you look at the articles published in this journal, you will find most papers are really of very poor, low quality.

My guess is that they are a software startup for the e-submit , and possibly related products. In order to test drive their software they need to run their own journals bcs no one else will use it until it’s proven. It is very common for such startups to (a) operate out of people’s bedrooms, (b) have first products that limp, but perhaps shine in one novel way (e.g., completely free publishing), and (c) have insane business models (e.g., books). Will this fly in the end? Hard to know. Who thought that either Yet Another Web Search Engine (now Google), or, later, broadcasting 140 character messages would take off? (Although entering the fray in journals seems much harder than something like Twitter, which at least started up in a tech tailwind as opposed to against a journal headwind!)

Also, (d) have stupid a la mode names, like Twitter, Google, Fkme, and so on (so S&F seems not only apt but quite well chosen!), and (e) have all sorts of mistakes when they first roll out.

So, all in all, these guys seem to have hit all marks for a startup.

Would I publish with them? Prob not, but if it was the only game in town in my field, which I assume is at least a but more the case for Science and Religion…maybe.

Actuallly, Science and Religion seems like a perfectly fine thing to have a new journal about, so, sure, why not.

Thanks so much for posting this article, I think Dr. Cameron’s work speaks for itself here. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I’ve never seen a memorial mentioned in a scientific article…

“Additionally we have changed the definition of the number and angle 19 for ever and a memorial will stand in Athens Wisconsin.”

but the craziest part is that the memorial actually exists.

http://wisconsinhistoricalmarkers.blogspot.com/2013/06/hope-research.html

Wisconsin may want to re-evaluate its historical marker application procedures.

The Journal of Advances in Linguistics (JAL) ISSN 2348-3024

I received an email from them, too.

At first, I thought it was a great journal to have Impact Factor 1.013

I never thought they had lied!
So, the impact factor is fake and made up by themselves!

I never thought the journal was started in January this year because they are publishing Volume 3 now.
