The link seems to be within a list of random open-access journals, mostly recent & predatory, part of the “Pubicon Science Index” that they’re trying to validate.
Creating the list would involve work so I’m guessing that they stole it from somewhere else.

an apparently withdrawn article published earlier in the OMICS Publishing Group’s journal Epidemiology: Open Access.

I can only suppose that Busby’s cheque bounced.

You can almost understand a ‘science journalist’ not recognising the journal as a mockademic scam… but simply reprinting Busby’s press release without even checking whether his article actually exists?! That speaks of an unusual level of laziness and unconcern.

I have analyzed this publisher and found it borderline. In this case, I like to err on the side of caution and not include the borderline publishers on the list.

This is especially true when considering the meaning of the word ‘con’ in French.

OA Publishing London is a very curious organization as I have <a href="http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/neuroskeptic/2014/08/25/strange-rise-fall-medical-journal/#.VIGVLMknOVo" rel="nofollow">detailed on my blog</a>. They do seem to be victims of plagiarism themselves quite often, for instance in this case. No-one likes to be a victim but perhaps this is just karma <a href="http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/neuroskeptic/2014/02/18/strange-case-duplicate-publication/#.VIGVeMknOVo" rel="nofollow">catching up to them</a>?

Comment on Lambert Academic Publishing: A Must to Avoid by Ian Johnson

I recently stumbled across a ‘book’ being published by Lambert which named me as joint author! It was in fact only a Master’s dissertation that I had supervised. Although I had published a journal article, jointly with the student, in which I had made some very necessary revisions to this student’s work, I would not want my name so publicly associated with the original thesis. I have lost contact with the student, who probably added my name as some form of gratitude, so I asked Lambert to remove it, but they have done nothing, and the ‘book’ is still there on Amazon and various other online booksellers’ web sites. This amounts to identity theft, and is utterly disreputable.

Thanks for this article. I googled Avens after getting a spam email. I knew it wasn’t legitimate because it was asking me to be an editor for a journal pretty far outside my expertise. But I was curious about the background– who are these people, and what are their motivation. Thanks. You saved me time in providing this info.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_El_Naschie

“Mathematical physicist professor John C. Baez of the University of California at Riverside has called El Naschie’s work “undisciplined numerology filled with impressive buzzwords””

“cosmologist Neil Turok of the Perimeter Institute, testifying as an expert witness against El Naschie in a British court case, has strongly criticized the quality of El Naschie’s papers, based on criteria such as the occurrence of meaningless or obscure statements, statements that are wrong, and the lack of any substantial contribution of new knowledge to the field concerned.”

“El Naschie disputed these allegations and sued Nature for libel. In July 2012 the case was dismissed, with the judge ruling that the article was “substantially true”, contained “honest comment” and was “the product of responsible journalism”. The judgement noted that El Naschie, who represented himself in court, had failed to provide any documentary evidence that his papers had been peer-reviewed.[11] Judge Victoria Sharp also found “reasonable and serious grounds” for suspecting that El Naschie used a range of false names to defend his editorial practice in communications with Nature, and described this behavior as “curious” and “bizarre”.”

Like baishali, I would also like to know more about this publisher. I don’t know much about it, but it seems that the University of Chicago Press distributes some of Intellect’s titles ( http://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/publisher/pu3431193_3431196.html#tab-author ). And when I attended the annual meeting of The Popular Culture Association of Australia and New Zealand, Intellect had an official stall acknowledged by the association office.

I’ve seen some of the publisher’s books, and I didn’t think their qualities were very problematic – for example, see this book review (http://muse.jhu.edu/login?auth=0&type=summary&url=/journals/notes/v069/69.2.schwandt.html). As for the journals, however, they publish too many titles and I’ve read none of them. They mostly focus on popular culture, which makes it quite difficult for non-experts to judge the quality of articles.

It's published by Wolters Kluwer Health / Medknow, which is <strong>not </strong>on my list. I think it's okay.

This is a brand-new journal that uses untruthful language to promote itself:

“The International Journal of Computer Science Issues (IJICTT) is a well-established and notable venue for publishing high quality research papers as recognised by various universities and international professional bodies”

If they are not being honest about this, I assume they are not being honest about other things. I also could not find information about how much the journal charges to publish. This should be clearly stated. There are already many journals in this field that cover the same topics. I have added this one to my list.

They copied and pasted the information from the International Journal of Computer Science Issues website.

http://www.ijcsi.org/about.php

They even forgot to change the name of the journal in the first line other than the acronym (IJCSI to IJICTT).

A second look and their whole website is a copy of IJCSI with just a different layout but all the same wording.
