Comment on Chinese Publisher MDPI Added to List of Questionable Publishers by lorenzoiorio2014

It seems to me that these problems are more typical of the field you are working in, so that they likely reflect also in journals of the same field. As far as my personal experience is concerned as EiC and Guest Editor of a Special Issue, I am always consulted at the very beginning of the submission process, and in the final decision of acceptance/rejection process, with the faculty of adding my own review comments. And we already rejected some manuscripts without external peer-review.

Hi Jeffery

Can you have a look at the following link and comment on it?

http://ipll.manoa.hawaii.edu/internal/documents/predatory-publishers/

The journal has disappeared some times ago and no longer online.

Another issue is the ACADEMY PUBLICATION. They have started with two journals JLTR and TPLS, while they used to be under ACADEMY PUBLISHER. http://www.academypublication.com/
Their activity is suspicious and they publish 30 papers in a single issue and it costs over $350 to publisher there. Majority of the authors (almost 50% and over) are Iranian and the rest are Chinese in which this is in contrast to Beall Criteria.
On top of that, I keep receiving spam emails which are soliciting me to submit a paper. And also, although Scopus agreed to included them, they swiftly changed their minds and delisted both of the journals.
This is very peculiar and I would be grateful if you let us know what you think about them.

Actually, GSTF is not on my list. I do know that they are cooperating with Springer and using the Global Science Journals platform for one or two of their vapid journals. GSTF is a very annoying publisher that is very full of itself. It is stagnating, not really improving in my opinion, and I do recommend personally to researchers who ask me to seek out a better venue for their work.

No one really knows what the reason was and how they have vanished all of sudden. It is sad that there was no repository. They were charging over USD300 for publication. What will happen to their inclusion in the SCOPUS?
Jeffrey! none of their journals were open access and PDF were not accessible online.

In the meanwhile, neither Academy Publisher [http://www.academypublisher.com/] nor Academy Publication [http://www.academypublication.com/] are on your list. What are your justification? I am going to write a post on my blog and reveal more about these two Chinese publishers that pretends to be in Europe and the UK. Like other vanity journals, they use the address to indicate that their business model is legally registered. I checked both Business Departments in both countries and none of them are registered at all. It is really strange that you were hesitate to add them to the Beall list.

The “institute” website has been ‘suspended’. Did anyone manage to download the pdf of the paper? The text can still be found in G**gle’s cache, but not the figures.

I had been working for WSEAS for almost a year and they are laughing stock. All Operations can be summer with the folliowing:

Meat-Scientists + AnyPaper = Profit + ChangeForVisibilityORVacations.

Mastorakis himself is a happy plumpy man, who keeps within the business just for Profit. Please mind that he is working for Hellenic Navy and it is FORBIDDEN to run a personal business. Thus he names it non-profit and haves his wife or relatives as doormen..

CONMEN, the very lot of them, and SO happy I am out. BEWARE!

My dear Jeff, although I must admit as academia I like your other post. However for this I wonder whether it is ethical to post about what you know by giving an example from one individual (Stefan Vladutescu at Romania’s University of Craiova) on what kind of journal that he have chosen as a venue to publish his paper. Please don’t misunderstand me on this Jeff. I meant what you did here is not according to your own purpose to gave us what you understand this predatory journal to us all. I am not judging you mate on this matter as I believe we all have our right on Internet to share what we know for the good of others. I know that you agree with me on this matter. Forgive me if I am wrong about this mate because I respect the American’s freedom of speech act. I truly do cause some of my best friends (even my family live there and my uncle who have passed away by the name of Zaki Fachmi Rachmat who have been passed away in the past serve as academia at the University of Wisconsin). It’s then up to you to decide this matter my friend. Cheers from Indonesia. Respect – jillbert-

PS: For me, it is truly A OK if you decide to just consider this as a note from a friend and not display it. When you ready to answer my enquiry on this matter, please email me @ julius.jillbert@gmail.com. Cheers.

Hi Jeffrey,
Thank you for all the information you have supplied. I have found it a very interesting read. Could you please check the Journal of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Food Sciences. I published in this journal several years ago. Everything appeared to be ok at the time. However, after reading your finding on open access journals I am beginning to doubt many journals. Especially as this journal displays adverts for OMICS group conferences.

Many thanks,

J

http://www.jmbfs.org/

P.S. I should add that it was free to publish in this journal and I was not approached to publish here.

I have analyzed this publisher and found it to be borderline. I generally don’t add the borderline publishers to my list, so it’s not included there. If a friend were to ask me about publishing in one of their journals, I would advise him to find a better publisher.
