Hi, Mary, This appears to be a new (to me) publisher called Kowsar. I need to give it a full analysis, and this could take me up to several days. My first impression is not positive, so please tell you colleague to proceed with extreme caution. If possible, can you forward me the spam email she received? jeffrey.beall@ucdenver.edu Thanks.

Recently, they asked me to review a paper for one of their journals. However, they only gave me 2 weeks for reviewing the paper, so that I cannot give my comprehensive evaluation to the paper. Sometimes, it feels ridiculous to ask reviewer sending their comments in just two weeks, as we also have other jobs that we should handle.

Thanks for your work.
Please what do you make of Journal of Business management and Applied Economics, they claim to be based in Romania. Do you advise I have my work published with the Journal?

Your advise is highly needed.

Comment on Young Assistant Professor Helps Promote Questionable Conferences, Journals by Manfred Raida

Conferences are a big business now, run by commercial operating companies. Science second, money first. Sponsorship through companies is marketing costs for them and if the marketing department does not look into the conference organiser, they will spend money in the wrong conference.
Seriously, there are so many conferences every year, even in exotic fields like Proteomics, that there is no chance to go to all of them – or scientific work has to be stopped. And it is more and more difficult to select the good ones and the real ones as these have no marketing budget, home-made fliers, home-made websites, direct invitations, costs only to cover the real expenses of the conference and lab members to do the admin work. How to compete with these predatory organisers, love to get an idea.

Yes, the journal was hijacked. There is no easy solution to this problem. The journal hijackers are criminals.

I have this jorunal's publisher, ScientificPapers.org, included on my list. I recommend avoiding all the journals from this publisher.

Dear Ferdi, excuse me for my skepticism, but your story makes me question your academic credentials. 2 weeks to review a manuscript is NOT short time for any journal. In fact I just reviewed one paper for a Wiley journal related to optical physics and biomaterial, they gave me only 1 week from the time I am allowed to read the full abstract. But in the end I believe I did a good job by really committing to the task I took upon myself. If you feel under time pressure, just dont accept the review task. And if you spent less time reading and comment on forums you probably wouldve had enough time for a comprehensive evaluation. When people neglect their responsibility because the one asking for review is less than Science or Nature, then of course these poor journal’s quality cannot go up!

Dr. Beall, what about the International Journal of Political Science and Development?
p.s. it’s published by or part of Academic Research Journals…or at least that’s in the email address.

Regarding the International Journal of Agriculture Food Science & Technology (IJAFST), this journal's publisher is Research India Publications (RIP), and this is a subscription publisher (not open-access), and I recently added this publisher to my list, so I recommend that you avoid it. Tropical Agriculture, published by The University of the West Indies, is not on my list.
