Comment on OMICS Goes from “Predatory Publishing” to “Predatory Meetings” by Krishnakumar, R.V.

Robin, you are free to remain anonymous provided you learn to write respectfully. Me being an indian is a non-issue. It need not be pointed out at all. To remind the readers of the kind of words you used like, ‘royal ass’, ‘dumb ass’, you ought to reveal who you are. How is that you remain ‘under ground’ and exhibit your heroics. I felt you need to be smoked out from the hole. Keep cool and think twice. You also commented on someone’s Ph.D. degree. All these under a fake name! Be brave man. You need to be really brave, Man. Stop revferring to citizenships, try to grow.

No, not at this time. If you examine my list, you will not see this journal on it. I hope they can continue to attract high quality papers and keep article processing fees low or free.

I have ignored many invitations to serve in these predators and a few are from OMICS too. About a year ago, one of my colleagues boasted in the department meeting that he is serving as editor in many international journals. I was surprised, yet felt happy for him. He however, did not mention the names of the journals. But, when I read an article by Dr.Beall on predatory OA, I could connect his statements to predatory OA and since got interested. I have introduced Dr.Beall’s name among my colleagues, and have suggested them to read his criteria. I never miss an opportunity to talk about predators and Dr.Beall. When a ‘slut’ approaches, what do you want me to do? avoid? or ignore? or boycott? I am particularly concerned because, when someone is right, correcting them wrongly is unacceptable.

Dear Prof. Beall

This journal is published by a University and the university does not let them ask for any fee.

Jeff, it sounds like your list opens up an area that needs much more investigation. Obviously the world of scientific publishing is opening up. It seems as if Open Access is in need of some sort of ‘seal of approval’ for organizations, especially if Nobel Laureates are being pulled into the system.

Open Access is a Pandora’s Box that isn’t going away. How academics respond to it and change it is critical.

I hope you bring this to the attention of MDPI, who will presumably sic their lawyers on the INSII folks.

In theory you may be right about there being a place for smaller conferences, although in my experience it’s generally *harder* to get talks in to small ones than megaconferences (like Evolution and both ESAs) because they’re more squeezed for time and space, and they cost more relative to the amount of conference time you get. That said, there are many more reasons to boycott OMICS, notably their grossly bad ethics (which you yourself mention) and devotion to profit rather than science.

I found this web site trying to find some information about journal ‘Global Journals of Science Frontier Research’ where I recently submitted my paper. It was important for me to understand how in science community react on this journal. Difference of this journal from Science and academic publishing is that they do not charge for publishing of paper and it is possible to sent them PDF format.

I read all opinion on this site and want to add few my ideas, which I get year ago I submitted to new journal ‘Clifford algebra, Clifford analysys and applicaton’. I understand that when new journal appears it may be confusing: what is future of this journal, what it is its quality. Certainly the answer depends what kind of papers will be published in this journal.

However quality of journal partially will depends on us as well. If instead of complaining will be this journal be good or not we will sent into this journal papers of good quality we will help the journal to get appropriate point. The same time we will help ourselves.

it is well known that most popular journals cannot publish all papers that are submitted there. And one of the reason increased amount of papers. And may be new journal reduce (I do not expect to solve) this problem. Probably one of the reason why we see so much title is that people do not know in advance where will be the larger number of papers, which of this titles will survive in the future and which will not.

Dear Jeffry

I think the owner of this site has tried to do something similar to other people who tried to stole ArchiveDeScience identifications.

Until a few days ago, they had six victims who paid 150$ each and hope your efforts stop them at early stage. I know some one who has already sent email to ELSEVIER. They also abused University of Ottawa logos and tried to pretend they are affiliated with this university.

Thanks for introducing this blog at early stage.

If you fake an impact factor for your journal, why not being a little bit more ambitious than 0.315? That´s like proudly announcing to be the fifth billion greatest lover in the world. Obviously the person in charge has no clue what a good impact factor is.

I agree with this comment! I myself tried to take action on “Archive des Science Journal” that appears to be a fraud. It claims the Impact Factor of 0.3 or so on the webpage. I even wrote to Thompson Reuter where they claim they got the IF from but I got no answer.

The funny thing with this so called publisher is that their journal does not have any ISSN. As you can see, one does not need to even register a journal with ISSN portal to fool some people.

I recommend having a separate list for publishers like OMICS and this one. I think if publishers clearly try to put false statements like

fake Impact Factor,
false statement on being listed on ISI, Scopus, etc.,
false statement on having collaboration with well-known publishers,
publishing many plagiarized papers,
overcharging scholars’ credit cards more often,
keeping scholars’ papers hostage and keep calling them over and over to receive payment,

they are clearly criminals and scholars must avoid them.

Dear Mr. Beall,

Why did you include Trade Science Inc as predatory publisher? it does not manage open access journals. Its journals do not ask fee from authors, but give them free e-reprints in the form of PDF
