Also, their <a href="http://cgrd.org/index.php/32-uncategorised/83-plagiarism" rel="nofollow">"Plagiarism"</a> page appears to be a word for word copy of the one from <a>StandRes Journals</a> although it's possible this is mere self-plagiarism if the two publishers are in fact run by the same person.

These predatory publishers and journals follow something similar to the People’s Republic of Tyranny law (where the more words involving freedom and democracy a country or political party has in its name, the more totalitarian it is – http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PeoplesRepublicOfTyranny ). The more generic, meaningless and broad the title and description of a journal/publisher are, the more likely it is to be a junk one.

There’s no chance that those applicants’ photos and details might end up attached to the publisher’s spam emails/flyers/conference announcements/editorial board info without their knowledge! None at all!

I have been doing some digging and I think this goes even deeper than Jeffrey suspected. There are at least four publishers that I think are linked, possibly more. I’m still searching.

Comment on OA Publisher to Peer Reviewer: Never Mind by Marcus Muench

I had the same thing happen to me as an editorial board member of a BenthamOpen journal (which I just checked and doesn’t seem to exist anymore – no surprise). They gave me 7 days to review a paper, which I thought didn’t include the weekend, but did. I submitted my review on day 9 and then a little while later noticed that the paper was published without my second review and none of my comments were addressed. I contacted the editorial office and they said that my review came in late and that they had enough reviews. First of all, I was furious that I had rushed and spent my time to honestly try and help the authors prepare a better manuscript. Some issues were easily fixed, but critical (like missing ethics statements on animal work). I actually spent my time writing the editorial office on how such practices undermine their efforts to build a reputable journal and I contacted the editor-in-chief, who I found out really did nothing for the journal. The editorial office never seamed to make any genuine effort to take simple steps to improve their service, although they did drop the dumb idea of 7 day reviews. Regardless, I got myself off their editorial board and will refuse to work with any publisher that tries to spread a wide net to get their reviews done quickly. It is an incredibly disrespectful practice and just demonstrates the greed of the publisher and their ignorance for the peer-review process.

Hi Beal,
What you’re doing is really valuable.
Have you encountered the ISESS and IPASE conferences?
ISESS will be held in a prestigious Tokyo university, and I was hoping that means it’s a quality conference. But it seems you can never be too sure these days.
Based on their affiliated journals, and your usual criteria for assessing quality conferences, what are your thoughts about these 2 conferences?
http://soci-science.org/2015/tokyo/isess/publication.html
http://iainst.org/ipase2015/publications2015-international-forum-public-affair-social-science-and-economics/

Thank you!

I actually focus on scholarly journals and do not have a criteria for analyzing conferences. The second of the two conferences you list funnels papers to Science Publications, a predatory publisher included on my list. I haven’t analyzed the two journals associated with the first conference you list, but they appear extremely dubious. I would advise scholars to seek out more professional conferences; these seem designed only to profit from attendees. Someone has been tricked.

I got a cold invite to review for the American Journal of Applied Mathematics. My contact is from a faculty member at the University of Management and Technology in Lahore, as is one of the paper authors, and the paper is for a special issue of proceedings for a conference being held there. I’m not sure how they found me in particular: the paper’s in a field broadly similar to my own but hardly one I’m specifically relevant to.

Actually, taking a look at the conference webpage (it’s UNCPAM 2015, for what it’s worth), the overwhelming majority of participants are from institutions in Lahore, mostly the host institution, which makes me wonder why they’re going outside their own community for review.

Dear Mr. Beall,
could you tell me something about “Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences” by America Research Institute for Policy Development?
Thanks

Yes, the American Research Institute for Policy Development is included on my list. It is a predatory and even dangerous publisher, and I strongly encourage you not to have any connection with this publisher and its journals. Do not agree to serve on its editorial boards, and do not submit any manuscripts to any of its journals. Please find a better publisher.

There are many who are victims of LAP. We are all complaining. But there is no one who suggests to take legal action. why not we try to do something, in this respect? I think there would be a way to raise legal issue on this org. Why not we try to collect Signatures of volunteers and present it to justice?

Is Bentham Science Publisher a predatory journal if they offer a open access option?

I have not considered traditional publishers that offer a hybrid option eligible for my list. So, Bentham Science Publishers is not on my list.
Bentham Open is, however.
