Comment on Strange New OA Publisher Launches with 42 Journals by Dr Santhosh

There has been a proliferation of Fake Open access journals, most of them are based in India. The real reasons are
1. Pressure on Indian academia to publish
2. Mafia like approach of all western journals, where in order to publish you need to already have a connection with someone with the editorial including PLOSS
3. Definite deficiency in language skills :English, is NOT our mother tongue.
4. Fierce competition among scholars
5. With most of the main research all ready accomplished, very little ground breaking can accomplished in a school or college lab, on limited funds.
BTW, I was invited to be an editorial member of the same funny journal, as far I understand NO journal from America would ever bother inviting small time scholar like me….

Kwara: The first one is published by a firm called Global Publishing Corporation. I have added this publisher to my list. The second one is published by a firm called Council for Innovative Research. This publisher is already on my list, and I recommend that you not submit papers to any of the journals from these publishers. Thank you for alerting me to Global Publishing Corporation, which is a dangerous publisher.

This journal is included on my list here, and I recommend that you not submit any papers to it. I would recommend that you find a better journal for your work.

Hello, I have published in one of the journals from the list above a couple of years ago without realizing that it was one of the predatory publishers.
Is it possible to withdraw a paper after being published in a predatory journal? if not, is it ethical to resubmit a “slightly” improved version of the paper to another journal with or without referring to the original paper?
Thanks, Nader

It’s possible, but it’s not always the best idea. If you do this, you should be transparent about the situation with the new journal, explaining to them the your history of the article. In many cases, the best thing to do is to use it as a learning experience and write a completely new and better paper and submit it to a good journal.

I’ve always understood that DOAJ only means “Online Publications” whether journals charge fees or not (the same as DOI for paper publications). Online publications are nowadays expanding and flourishing for obvious reasons. In my opinion, the real question is to know who finance a journal. When it’s the author who funds, this undoubtedly becomes problematical!

I’ve recently been invited to join this journal as a member and then asked to review their manuscripts; however, I highly suspect that it might be a scam by a few things: 1) they used a ‘gmail’ account to send out the email; 2) they do not create a log in account to access their journals so that we can send the reviews through their webpage: 3) the name “horizon research publishing” seems a bit awkward to me and 4) I cannot find the sender – Kevin Nelson -editorial assistant anywhere as said in their publishing company!
Last but not the least, I did not receive any of their appointment letter for invitation as a reviewer before they sent me the manuscript!

That’s what Kevin Nelson wrote in the email as below:

“Due to the fact that you are a member of this journal and on the base of your expertise, we invite you to review this manuscript.

If you know you will not be able to review the manuscript by the deadline(within 21 days), then you should not accept the invitation. Sending in a review after the deadline will slow down the publication process.

Once the review is completed, you should submit the review report attached in this email to us.

At the end of your peer review, we ask you to indicate your final decision on the manuscript, by selecting one of the following recommendations:

Accept as it is
Requires Minor Revision
Requires Major Revision
Reject

Please let me know whether you are able to carry out the review by Accepting or Declining this invitation. In case, you are unable to review this manuscript at this point of time, please suggest suitable reviewers if you know any.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.”

Best Regards
