I think scopus has become useless as it is indexing various low level journal. I sent my two article in two different journals assuming that they are good journal. Both are still indexed in scopus. I do not know why scopus have lots of journal which are listed in your list. What is good for a researcher to publish a small work in predatory scholarly open-access journals or in any good conference? Because sometime a researcher thinks that this is a small work, let it published in some low standard journal as finally it increase the numbers in journal list. I saw one journal, Electronic Journal of Geotechnical Engineering (http://www.ejge.com), a USA journal and this is not in your list. Please sir could you please review this journal. Please sir accept my apology for asking a personal question which cant be asked at it platform, but i do not have any other option. Could you please let me know that how many journal papers are required to get a faculty job offer from a good institutes of any developed country.
Thank you sir!!

The Electronic Journal of Geotechnical Engineering is clearly showing signs of the "Scopus Effect," or more precisely in this case, the "Compendex Effect." It appears that about 95% of the authors of recent articles are from China. This occurs because many in China desperately need to get publications in Compendex- or Scopus-indexed journals, so they seek out and find the easiest journals that are included in these academic indexes. This journal appears to be one, and it has already published 13 issues for 2015, about two a month. The publisher is becoming rich. The word is out; if you want to get an easy Scopus or Compendex publication, send it here. This represents a breakdown in research cultures, and I am adding this journal to my list. Regarding your last question. Many universities now focus on quality rather than quantity. Because of untrustworthy journals such as the Electronic Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, quantity is not a valid measure anymore.

I have submitted two papers to TSWJ. The first was accepted in spring 2013 after about a month with two reviews recommending only minor revision (not requiring). The second one a year later was rejected after approx. the same time again after two reviews for the reason “insufficient novelty”. I do not see anything wrong on the review process.

Dear mr beall, you included Dove press (publication house ) under some category. In this publication there are many good journals which include good and high quality of articles, can you please on which basis you put full publication house under your category rather then putting only underrated journals.
Even elisver publication house charge more money for open access as compare to Dove press.
sir it is request that if you put specific journals in your list rather then full publication house.
and why you dove press in your list??

Perhaps they should change the title to the Indian Journal Plagiarism, because it appears to be full of it. I recommend avoiding this journal. There are many better choices.

Can I suggest you look at the international journal of diversity in education. Ijde.cgpublisher.com. Looks very suspect to me.

Yes, this journal is published by Common Ground, a U.S.-based publisher. I have analyzed it, but it doesn’t meet the criteria, so I cannot add it to the list.

I agree that it looks suspect, and I regularly receive inquiries about it, an indication that many find it fishy. I do personally recommend that researchers avoid all of this publisher’s journals. There are better choices.

Comment on Higher Education Forum: 95% Vacation, 5% Scholarly Conference by Peter Kutschera

While I respect the overall mission of SOA and its estimable proprietor Dr. Jeffrey Beall, I was somewhat taken aback by this article’s “over the top” headline: “Higher Education Forum: 95% Vacation, 5% Scholarly.” That plus the piece’s rather cursory examination of… OMG… a “for-profit” company – one that in my humble opine is also providing an invaluable academic service and research conference paper exposure opportunity in a very, very vital part of the world. This is especially so for young and aspiring researchers and even older seasoned academics . The many who often find themselves shut out from having their hard work recognized. Or, those who become unfairly burdened by receiving yet another rejection slip from the exclusive and short number of establishment, super highly competitive, sometimes subjectively challenged and occasionally clubby brick and mortar journals SOA recommends as one of the only real alternatives. I am a proud participant, presenter and moderator at a number of HEF conferences in East/Southeast Asia and in Taiwan- the Republic of China, and have encountered many intensely motivated, serious, hard working professional researchers, often in the prime of their careers, who have left me highly impressed with their accomplishments and resolve to contribute mightily to the literature. These conference participants are equally as impressive as the many I’ve also met @ the research association conferences SOA also rightfully recommends. In the interests of improving its value to readers I wish your article and inquiry might have been more “balanced,” and rather less “prosecutorial” in its approach and tone. Unfortunately the incandescent headline and a chunk of content is unfair and not adequately vetted. The article’s basic premise that HEF is a “travel agency” is provocative and gratuitous. How many research and professional conferences stateside conducted by responsible universities and colleges are held routinely at such “travel” destinations as Las Vegas, Miami, Myrtle Beach, New Orleans, St. Petersburg-Tampa, Charleston, SC, Seattle, San Diego or San Juan, PR? Usually I would imagine 95% of attendees at these events are there to make a contribution and that’s what I believe you would encounter attending a HEF conference

I stand by my criticism of HEF and recommend that honest researchers not waste their money (or their university’s money) and time attending its vaconferences. Your arguments are fallacious and you should reveal that HEF pays you to give your boring “keynote” talks at some of its almost weekly-held conferences. Evidence shows that this firm has contractual agreements with predatory journals in South Asia and West Africa, journals that use fake impact factors and do little or no peer review, accepting everything submitted. Publishing in such journals could be extremely damaging to the careers of young academics. The ridiculous PR person for HEF sent numerous “press releases” to my university chancellor (apparently she doesn’t know how to do any normal type of correspondence) and her statements revealed that the company is completely clueless about fake impact factors, fake peer review, and predatory publishers. Your comments about attendees of conferences here in the U.S. are unwarranted. Stop trying to play the attendees of different conferences off of each other. This is about HEF and only HEF. It’s a low-quality and questionable conference organizer, and the fact that they hire you as a keynote speaker provides strong evidence for this.

Do you think it matters that you are married to the editor of the journal under which you were published? Do you think it matters that you two have a financial arrangement with the publishers? Are you willing to disclose what that arrangement is since the authors are charged page fees? How much money will you and your husband make from running this journal?

I think there is unjust ceitism of Global Academic Network Conferences here. I have participated two of the Conferencess in Tokyo/Japan and Los Angeles/USA in 2014 with my colleagues. It was a very thought stimulating and academically productive platform for us.

My attendance to GAN conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil was a memorable experience. I think the event was well organized and the cultural trip made it even more exciting. GAN conference gave me the opportunity to meet scholars from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Gergioa, Turkey, and so on. The quality of the presentations was definitely high, and the follow up discussions opened new revenues in my research agenda. I appreciated that I was provided with a certification of attendance as well as receipt of payment with a seal and wet signature, which was required for reimbursement purposes. The only thing I could complain about was the attendance at the sessions, but it was understandable as it it was during the Rio Carnaval and the weather was amazing.

I have been to Global Academic Network Conference in Tokyo in April 2014. The conference was real and was full of people. I had enjoyed also the tour to Mount Fuji :). The organisation of both of the conference and tour was very well and I am happy to attend and share my work with colleagues from different parts of the world by GAN.
