I think it is a very low quality and even dangerous publisher. It is not an open-access publisher. I think few libraries subscribe to its journals, so if you publish in one of its journals, almost no one will see your work; it will be hidden.

Please prof what is your take on AIMS publishers. It seems to be a good one. Their peer review process seems very okay and thorough when I sent a paper.

Thanks Beall for your hard work.
I found one of my friend published in such journals:
British Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology (Maxwell Scientific Organization) and
International Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology ISSN: 2326-7267 Vol. 2 (9), pp. 131-142, December,
2013. Available online at http://www.internationalscholarsjournals.org © International Scholars Journals

I am confused specially with the British Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology. it seems that it is mimicked by somebody else. Are these journal predatory???

What you guys are doing here when more sophisticated scientific quantitative tools are available. Try the following mix to find out a quality journal:
-Check Survival Index of a journal here (enter ISSN):
http://miar.ub.edu/
Survival Index (ICDS) should me more than 3.
-Check third parties (valid companies) recommendations for that journal. Companies must be non-indexing/abstracting ones.
-Check archiving arrangements by a journal.
-Check whether editorial board members/editors published their articles/editorials in that journal.
-Pick a published article and discuss it with at least 3 professors/research professionals of your university/institution. Get their opinion about the quality of published article.

If you find these criteria satisfactory, then go ahead and publish with the journal.

Both of the publishers are on my list here. I am confused about the "mimicked" part, though. I am not sure what you mean. Can you explain? Thanks.

I greatly appreciate the service you are providing in pointing out predatory journals. As journals proliferate so rapidly week by week, it is difficult to maintain tabs on what is real and what is not.

I would like to point out a site that fits into the category of predatory. It is called Global Medical Discovery. In its promotion is states that for $35 “We highlight the papers and give it high visibility using different channels.” However, in follow-up correspondence Dr. Levy, the originator of the call for papers, claims that “it is not a publication, it is a news release. We do not publish already published papers. For a fee of $35 it promises to is not a publication, it is news release. We don’t republish already published papers.” Finally Dr. Levy states that “We highlight the papers and give it high visibility using different channels.” However, along with the $35 payment it requires that you submit an abbreviated form of your original paper.

Once the fee is paid there is no further correspondence from Dr. Levy. However, in response to an inquire challenging the legitimacy of Global Medical Discovery, Dr. Levi merely states that the information can be found on Google, which I was not able to track down with anything associated with Global Medical Discovery.

From all this I conclude that it is predatory since Dr. Levy appears only interested in the handling fee without any of the advertising of the paper that he initially promised.

I was duped, but hope that others can be stopped from submitting a document and fee without any benefits.

Sincerely,

Damien Kuffler

Yes, I call these “article promotion companies.” What they are doing is not illegal, but it’s probably unnecessary in most cases. Thank you.

Or, save yourself all that hassle and submit to established, subscription-based journals that everyone in your field know and read.

“Preventing this corruption in the golden OA, the bill should be paid directly by the research grant agency to the publisher.” That won’t change anything. If you want to prevent that corruption, stay away from a business model that provide monetary incentive for publishers to accept papers.

Hi… Can you check if Serials Publications is genuine. I had the experience of being conned by them. They accepted payment for publishing in a journal but then later published the paper in not one, but two different journals in 2012. Just checked that they republished the paper (word by word) in two different journals again, one in 2014 and another in 2015!

It might be interesting to note that the journal is published by Elsevier. See: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/10018417

The publisher’s guide for authors also mentions that “[s]ome authors may be reimbursed for associated publishing fees”, although it too doesn’t say anything else about these ‘associated fees’. See here: http://www.elsevier.com/journals/chinese-chemical-letters/1001-8417/guide-for-authors#13000

Why do you give Elsevier a free pass even though they teamed up with this predatory journal and enabled them to put their content in front of a greater audience? Why did you fail to note this relationship between Elsevier and CCL in this blog post?

I have recently submitted my review paper and even got accepted and I being from low income country was allowed concession on the publication fees which I have paid. My paper was sent back to me 3 times for revisions before final acceptance.
What can I expect as I am late to read this blog? Will my work get accepted in my university?
