Mr Jeffery, I want to know in clear terms if “International Journal of Applied Sciences and Mathematical Theory” is a recognise journal or else.

They weren’t especially subtle about copying other aspects of the original BMC title either. Even their description is comprised of text copied (and slightly rearranged to hide the fact) right out of Diagnostic Pathology. For example, these are from their “About the Journal” sections:

Diagnostic Pathology: Open Access (copycat)-

“The journal of Diagnostic Pathology considers research in surgical and clinical pathology, immunology, and biology, with a special focus on cutting-edge approaches in diagnostic pathology and tissue-based therapy.”

“Diagnostic Pathology will provide an integrative journal for molecular pathology (biology) and digital pathology (virtual pathology), creating an open case discussion platform to be used during daily diagnostic work.”

Diagnostic Pathology (Original)-

“Diagnostic Pathology is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal that considers research in surgical and clinical pathology, immunology, and biology, with a special focus on cutting-edge approaches in diagnostic pathology and tissue-based therapy.”

“Diagnostic Pathology will provide an integrative journal for molecular pathology and digital pathology ,creating an open case discussion platform to be used during daily diagnostic work.”

Note: The comma is out of place on that last section, so even their attempt to copy the phrase and erase the “virtual pathology” (that was in parentheses) from the original is sloppy.

You have the copycat and the original reversed.

This journal is published by the IIARD Publication Company (International Institute of Academic Research and Development). The publisher stinks and so does the journal. The journal is not recognized. I recommend against submitting papers to all journals from this publisher.

Hi Jeff: I see many of the journals listed by you as predatory on PubMed. Isn’t PubMed aware? Are they reluctant to clean house? Or, is there some legal reason why they will not remove a journal that clearly is publishing sub-standard science? I recall one publisher threatened a multi-million dollar lawsuit against you a while ago. Are they doing the same with PubMed? With all these predatory publishers, it has become open-season when it comes to annual research productivity at our university where faculty publish in these journals just to get their numbers up. The administration does not care as long as the journals are listed in PubMed. Same goes for promotion and tenure. It is a sad situation…..which can be cleaned up if PubMed takes some action.

I think PubMed may be losing its value as a whitelist. I’ve had conversations with NCBI folks at publishing conferences, but the conversations end up with them justifying casting a wide net of journals to be included in their databases and explaining why certain exceptions mandate that some journals be included, even when they really ought not to be. So, I think your point is well taken. Predatory journals have allowed millions of “researchers” to earn unwarranted academic credit, and this problem is only increasing in size.

This publisher appears to be out of scope for my work, as it apparently does not publish scholarly open-access journals. Thanks.

I recommend that you speak to one of the librarians at your university. This site provides information about citing newspapers. Good luck.

I guess stringing random words/concepts together is a good way to keep coming up with new journal titles.

“Journal of Post-Crystallographic Existentialism”
“Progress in Temporal Ergonomics”
“Nano-anthropology Letters”
“Bulletin of the American Pornocopian Society”
“First World Journal of Imitative Spectroscopy”

I don’t think it is. I know the publisher will tell you it’s the best journal ever launched.
They splash the logos and names of many legitimate organizations on their website to make the journal look like it’s connected to them when it’s really just another broad biology journal with dreams of earning a lot of revenue. I say find a better journal.
