Yes, I have been invited to speak at their meetings (three times!). And yes, I had to pay for my attendance as well. However, in all three meetings I did not see any scientists who I might think as inferior or as hobbyists. Their high standard made these meetings very successful and some of the attendants I met again during other meetings (with a higher reputation). I have to say that we all agreed about the low standard of the organization itself and many of us decided to not attend to their meetings any more. Their custom to hand out certificates to all speakers and moderators comes across as a bit childish….Yet, it is nice to find my oral presentations during their meetings on YouTube. None of us fell for submitting papers against high submission fees (their follow-up tactics), we are all too clever for that. Therefore it looks like this group has had its peak and I would think it will go down unless it will clean up its act.

I have also been approached by a similar group (even more dodgy than Omics) called BIT. It organizes its meetings in China. Their conduct is a lot worse than Omics. Be warned!

Yea, here’s mine….

I hope this email finds you well. I came across your paper on Cost-Effectiveness of Pertuzumab in Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2-Positive Metastatic Breast Cancer. and was hoping to have the opportunity to discuss having a short followup to this paper or perhaps a review article published in one of the next issues of the Internal Medicine Review. It would be nice to see a paper with information on any continued research or new data since this was published. I would also be interested in knowing more about your current projects; perhaps there is the potential for an article that would interest our readers. We are a peer-reviewed monthly journal, published both in print and online. The submission deadline is flexible. I am happy to asnwer any of your questions. Please get back to me at your earliest convenience.

Best Regards,

Milena Mihaleva

Yes, when I have a publisher included on my list, this means that I recommend you avoid all the journals it publishes. So, I would recommend that you find a better journal from a better publisher.

Comment on Sci-Hub Will Increase Academic Plagiarism by Mehrdad

It is the begin of a new movement and these radical ideas, can not stop it. It is not as simple as just saying that if you want your paper to be accessed, just submit them to an open access journal. In fact, sciencedirect/ELESEVIER/SPRINGER are monopolist companies, all scientist are forced to publish their research through their system. I suggest you to read anti-trust law in the US.
And about your blog post, I can accept easier access to the journal paper would increase the probability of plagiarism, but this is not the problem of OPEN-ACCESS movement. This is a technical barrier that can be removed easily.
If you can not understand my comment, I can say it easily; We do against copyright law for scientific contents, because we think we are free to do that and we do it intentionally and we think its against human right. If you think this is unfair, just don’t do it, but you can not dictate others, to think like you. The technical barriers, to share science through TOR network and even popular file-sharing services has been removed and it can not be stopped.

Sci-Hub is good or bad ( can’t say) but it turns ugly for someone. However, being a researcher I feel it helps a lot. After having subscriptions of many high paid journals still I can’t have access to all the articles, I need to pursue my research in cancer nanotechnology. In the recent time, when Sci-Hub released its data of downloading, then it was confirmed that everyone from everywhere is using it, irrespetive of economic background of the country. It directly says there is a flaw in the existing system of data sharing amongs scientists and reserachers where Journals control everything. Journals can be compared as a regulator of scientific growth which control distribution of knowledge based its paywall. We need journals too but the distribution of knowledge should be more transparent and free.

Comment on Oncotarget’s Peer Review is Highly Questionable by Mano

We all know from experience in or own fields that top tier journals such as Science and Nature often publish papers that apparently did not receive rigorous peer review. Such papers are particularly misleading to the general readership which tends to trust these elite journals more than other journals and also relies on name recognition of the authors. Oncotarget is clearly an author friendly journal with a good impact factor. The papers published in it are typically relatively large bodies of work. Most authors and reviewers appear to be serious about ensuring the quality of the papers, which should ultimately be judged on an individual basis for publications in any journal. As far as I know, authors receive multiple reviews from Oncotarget, even if it is from reviewers suggested by them (all the more reason for authors to want to impress the reviewers) and revise their papers accordingly. It would be extremely naive to think that Nature and Science proportionally have any fewer misleading papers than Oncotarget. All journals are abused by people who know how to do it but why not focus on the good work that is published instead?

Sorry to hear this, and I hope Tubitak does something about it. I get notices and contents of a biology journal under their auspices that seems respectable if low key. A great pity if a national list of OK journals gets corrupted. I had assumed that the papers I see in it were OK (certainly not all Turkish.

May I ask about the culture of collaboration in your field of cancer nanotechnology, if you privately contact authors of any paper of interest, do most of them normally refuse to share with you their published texts, don’t they interested in their paper to be cited?

Generally, since there are so many researchers all over the world who are against scientific copyright and the few publishers in control of everything, have this international movement of researchers organized any alternative sustainable model of quality scientific publishing of its own, e.g.non-for-profit, accessible for everyone, funded by… no one? Because it is very Robin-Hood-like of digital levellers to redistribute for free (as long as international digital piracy is not law enforceable) the quality content funded by others, but this is about mere consumption.

Dear Professor, I have published a paper in International Journal of Polymer Science and Engineering published by JournalsPub..

Later I found your list and the publisher is there in the list.. But I had’nt paid any money to them unlike some other journals eventhough the process of acceptance took only 1 month…

My doubt is why this publisher is still on list..

Very soon every journal will enter Beall list.In a way using the negative only to judge an an issue. Are you saying no positive effect of listed journals? that can not be,
even even possibility exist in Beal criteria
I think other researchers should begin to look at Bealls work for scrutiny. Thank you
