If your email system has a “Report Spam” button or a Spam folder to send the email to, that is probably a better choice than straight deletion.
That will make it more likely that future emails from the same scammers will be stopped before getting to your inbox. Depending on your mail system, it may also protect others by training the system to recognize these emails for the spam that they are.

Even for biomedical research this is a problematic proposition. For example, my papers in the American Journal of Human Genetics are not indexed on MEDLINE, and I don’t think anyone can claim that this is a predatory or a low level journal.

Except, please hold on a second, no one has said that journals not in MEDLINE are predatory journals. I repeat, I never said that, and I am not sure how you leaped to that conclusion.

I will explain how – you said not to use PubMed, use Medline, because when using Pubmed you can get papers from predatory and other low quality journals. But by applying your suggested filter, you exclude great journals. This is my point. Therefore, if someone accepts your suggestion and will look at my CV through your filter, I will lose two papers in one of the best genetic journals, as well as other papers in other good journals. So there must be another way, that will be more accurate.

World Journal of Gastroenterology by Baishideng is also listed.
They have many editors (more than 1000) and I know at least one who practices plagiarism.

The publisher MDPI is not on my list at this time.
However, I would personally advise you to find a journal from a stronger publisher for your work.

This journal is from a publisher called Global Journals, Inc. (US). I have this publisher included on my <a href="https://scholarlyoa.com/publishers/" target="_blank">list </a>and strongly recommend that researchers not send papers to any of its journals. It is a low-quality and deceptive publisher.

The first three journals you list are all included on my list <a href="https://scholarlyoa.com/individual-journals/" target="_blank">here </a>and should be avoided by all researchers. The last one is from a completely corrupt publisher called American Research Institute for Policy Development, based in Bangladesh. I have this publisher on my list and strongly recommend submitting papers to any of its journals. Summary: avoid all these journals.

Baishideng continue to spam, badly, with crufty software and a template. Please excuse the length of this comment, but the spammogram deserves to be cited in its entirety.

I particular enjoyed the clause that offers free publication in exchange for signing up as a pimp:

2.3 Senior scholars shall propagandize the BPG’s journals in the relevant field.

Needless to say, my

highly cited original article, , in the field of clinical medicine, biochemistry, and molecular biology

(where “highly cited” apparently means “more than 1 citations”) was not an original article — it was a commentary on someone else’s paper from 2005. And it was not in any of “the field[s] of clinical medicine, biochemistry, and molecular biology”. The weasels are not only grifters, they’re insultingly incompetent grifters.

The main point of the spam, with its grotesquely fulsome flattery, seems to be to induce “senior scholars” to send their images and CVs to Baishideng, allowing the publisher to pad out Editorial Boards with unwitting recruits.
——————————————————
Dear Dr. XXXXXX,

First, let me congratulate you on the publication of your highly cited original article, , in the field of clinical medicine, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Its current record of more than 1 citations reflects the quality of your paper and influence of your research, as well as your continued and important contributions to the field overall.

Given your outstanding achievements and reputation in the field of clinical medicine, biochemistry, and molecular biology, we would like to invite you to expand your impact as a senior scholar/peer reviewer of the Baishideng Publishing Group (BPG). The BPG’s policy regarding senior scholars/peer reviewers requires vetting to ensure integrity of the individual and their academic record; passage of this evaluation grants the individual a life-long exemption from publication fee, which is the BPG’s highest honor.

Please find below the necessary instructions for making your contribution of senior scholars/peer reviewers:

How to Submit

Step 1: Submit the basic information about the senior scholar/peer reviewer (closed as of October 31, 2016).

Step 2: To accept our invitation, please login to the F6 Manuscript Publishing System by clicking ——-. Then, choose the World Journal of Biological Chemistry link.

Step 3: Provide ten Key Words in your field (to facilitate peer review).

Step 4: Submit your Curriculum Vitae, Publication List, and Biography. The biography should consist of 250 words and should highlight your academic impact in the field.

Step 5: Submit the address of your Website. This will be the link to your academic profile, research group, if any, or institution.

Step 6: Submit your recent professional Photo. The image must be a JPG file. The photo size should be 48 mm in height and 33 mm in width.

Step 7: Evaluation of the complete submitted information will be performed within 28 days. You will be notified of our decision via E-mail.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF SENIOR SCHOLARS/PEER REVIEWERS

We are very pleased to announce that the 43 open-access, peer-reviewed clinical medical journals edited and published by the BPG will be open to global senior scholars in the field of clinical medicine, biochemistry, and molecular biology. The policy of life-long exemption from publication fee for senior scholars supports publication of these influential clinician-scientists and their high quality academic findings at the earliest possible time and promotes free access to the latest knowledge for readers. You can find the full list of these 43 journals by visiting: http://www.wjgnet.com/bpg/journals.htm.

Another advantage of the BPG is our industry-leading F6 manuscript peer-review and article publishing system, which was developed and implemented based upon our 24 years of working experience in the editing and publishing industry. Continued pursuit of publishing high quality articles to increase the competitiveness of our journals is our core value. In the current Internet era, fundamental changes have taken place in the business models for publishing and our mission has kept pace with identifying innovative strategies to solve the related challenges that senior scholars face.

One of the key challenges facing senior scholars today is the confounding practice of traditional print journals not charging an Article Processing Charge (APC) but requiring readers to purchase a subscription, thereby limiting access to the full-text article to only those able to afford and willing to pay the charge. As a result, the academic influence of senior scholars is greatly reduced by such a model.

However, the opposite publication model, in which the senior scholars are required to pay a fee to publish their research findings in open-access journals that require an APC, is equally flawed. While it gives readers free access to the full-text article, promoting the academic influence of senior scholars, it puts the burden of the cost of publishing on the senior scientists. Considering their great contributions to the relevant field, however, makes charging the APC to them appear unfair.

While it is not difficult for senior scholars to publish an article, it has proven difficult for publishers to solve the conundrum that senior scholars face and provide these senior scholars with generous, convenient services in publishing their high quality articles.

Since the core value of BPG is continued pursuit of publishing high quality articles to increase the competitiveness of our journals, we decided to implement the policy of life-long exemption from publication fee for senior scholars to help overcome this issue. This action also allows us to promote the discovery and transmission of knowledge, provide life-long services for senior scholars, offer readers a free-access knowledge platform, and promote the development of clinical medicine, biochemistry, and molecular biology. In such a system, the rights and obligations of BPG’s senior scholars/peer reviewers are unique, as described below:

1 Rights of senior scholars

1.1 Senior scholars shall be exempt from the APC permanently when publishing articles in the BPG’s journals as the first author or corresponding author;

1.2 The copyright of articles published by senior scholars shall be owned by the author(s) and publisher in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial (CC BY-NC 4.0) license;

1.3 Senior scholars understand and agree to become BPG’s senior scholars/peer reviewers;

1.4 Senior scholars shall reserve the right to quit, at any time, from the list of BPG’s senior scholars/peer reviewers.

2 Obligations of senior scholars

2.1 Senior scholars agree to perform peer review of four (4) manuscripts each year for journals published by the BPG and to be invited to contribute review articles;

2.2 Senior scholars shall comply with the publishing norms and rules;

2.3 Senior scholars shall propagandize the BPG’s journals in the relevant field.

3 Rights of BPG

3.1 BPG shall send the manuscripts contributed by senior scholars for peer review;

3.2 The copyright of articles published by senior scholars shall be owned by the author(s) and BPG in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial (CC BY-NC 4.0) license;

3.3 Senior scholars shall reserve their right to exclude themselves from the BPG’s list of senior scholars/peer reviewers; however, upon exclusion from the list, the senior scholars/peer reviewers shall not enjoy the corresponding rights, including the life-long exemption from APC.

4 Obligations of BPG

4.1 BPG shall provide life-long exemption from the APC for senior scholars, but this is limited only to manuscripts for which the senior scholars are the first author or corresponding author;

4.2 BPG shall allocate an ID number to senior scholars, which should be indicated in the cover letter when submitting the manuscript;

4.3 BPG shall provide priority to the peer review and publishing of manuscripts contributed by senior scholars;

4.4 BPG shall publicize the academic achievements of senior scholars actively;

4.5 BPG shall comply with the publishing norms and rules;

4.6 BPG shall release the list of senior scholars/peer reviewers.
