Comment on OA Publisher Offers Author Fee Waivers in Exchange for Citing Its Journals by Frank

Serendipituously, the paper that was cited had “papermill” in it, I suppose used in the context of a mill that manufactures paper, whatever that means nowadays.

I looked at the documents and I think the recycling of text is so extensive (starting with the very first sentence) that it is not absolutely necessary to see the markings. So if it’s difficult to upload the documents to a website it might be sufficient if Dr. Srinivasan provides links to the three papers on the publishers’ websites. Interestingly, the papers are about the impact factor, and are authored by the person who created it. Furthermore, two of the journals seem to be open access journals.

Comment on Two Print Journals Completely Hijacked by Online Hoodlums by naser

Please note this fake journal works under new website as follows,

http://www.archiveofscience.com

I would appreciate it if you could kindly turn this down. I am guessing many people have already been fooled by the new website.

Thanks Jeff for your effort, I recommend to focus more on this kind of site where there is no professional behind and the primary purpose is to collect money. This is more than rubbery on the street since they guy does not even endanger him/herself.

Unfortunately, bad guys like this have impacted other open text journals.

I downloaded that journal’s “Indexed and Abstracted in” list, and it would appear that it is indeed included in at least some of the indexes mentioned – i.e. DOAJ, Scirus, and IndexCopernicus

Fascinating! Your work really merits a book compyling your findings. And I am grateful; your posts disouraged me of publishing in some vanity predatory journal.

This journal is in a lot of A&Is. However, DOAJ & IndexCopernicus are “directories” and not A&I services (They are 2 very different things). DOAJ is becoming the directory of vanity journals. IndexCopernicus is just a poor man’s Ulrich’s.

I had observed 2 disturbing cases in the last few years.
1. An international conference with presented papers from about 2-3 senior authors.
2. An edited/peer-reviewed book of about 20 chapters but about 16-18 of the chapters were co-authored by the editor of the book (as senior author).

Thanks for your article on this. I had to write a “critical review” on a paper entitled ‘Screening of Micrococcus sp. from Oil Contaminated Soil with Reference to Bioremediation’ that was published in the International Digital Organization for Scientific Information. I couldn’t believe how poorly written the paper was, and was pointed to your article in Nature News on predatory publishers – which led me here. Thanks again!

I am not surprised. I am surprised that it didnt find a place in http://naasindia.org/rating.html. Probably the journal is yet to meet a very important requirement that it should be at least 3 years old to be eligible for higher rating. I would suggest http://naasindia.org/rating.html for exciting information on NAAS rating. See and enjoy for yourself how journals with thomson reuters impact facators in the range 0.00 – 0.02 may have a NAAS rating of 6.1 and more.

The process is on and we hope to get the rating very soon. Kinldy keep visiting our site for updated information

For those “ghost busters” or “dragon raiders”, American Journal of PharmTech Research (www.ajptr.com) is a good candidate to find a place in Dr.Beall’s “Hall of Fakes”?!!!?

Thanks! That journal’s logo is just hilarious… Also, eight people are listed as reviewers, while the latest issue alone contains no fewer than 76 papers! This is too funny.

I hope you got express written consent from Elsevier to use their corporate logo in that matter. I worked for Elsevier more than a decade ago, and they are pretty aggressive in protecting the “Elsevier Journals” brand.
