Research Media Inc and its International Innovation is also targeting Canadian researchers. As a researcher I am currently considering whether it is worth the money. I don’t automatically think not, there is some potential value to the glossy magazine approach. At any rate this is not an obvious scam, it does seem to be what it says it is. They have published interviews with senior Canadian science administrators which appear to be legit, although those were free. So they must support themselves through the page charges from researchers. There is some amount of marketing in Science, especially as soon as one goes beyond traditional peer-reviewed funding sources.

Does your standalone journal list imply that this is a predatory journal.

Not necessarily. Please see the definition at the top of the page there.

Some of us have been wondering how an article that could not possibly have been reviewed by those with expertise in the field got published. Now I have an idea. And I have more respect than ever for our traditional journals with an editor concerned about the quality of the published material and the competence and knowledge of the reviewers. I also think publishing the names of the reviewers biases the reviews, though a more interactive process does have some appeal.

Hi Jeff,

I wonder if the journal is not listed in your standalone list but it’s published by potentially predatory publishers, will that journal be considered as a predatory journal? For example, Asian Social Science is published by Canadian Center of Science and Education (in your list of publisher); yet, this journal is not listed on your standalone journal list and it is also listed on Scopus with an impact factor. What do you think?

Most of the time. I try to analyze at the publisher level whenever possible. There are just too many journals to analyze individually.

That is a proofreading service. Unfortunately they have a lot of grammatical errors on their website.

This publisher (bellpress) got a manuscript which I had withdrawn from the http://www.iiste.org/Journals/index.php/JBAH because it was accepted without reviewer’s comments (i dont know how), gave it fake authors without an address and published it http://bellpress.org/Journals/index.php/EJCC/article/view/973. I had however been able to publish my true work http://www.ccsenet.org/journal/index.php/jas/article/view/26639 earlier than this fake/thief publisher.

Efforts to contact the publisher (bellpress) have received no response. The Journal where the stolen manuscript was published has no editorial board.

Please advise me on the way forward, preferably on how this particular publication can be removed from their website!

Well, I am sorry this has happened to you. If your journal in CCSE is published with a free license (like CC BY), then anyone can take your content and publish it if they follow the terms of the license. In this case, they have not properly attributed the work to the original authors, it seems. You could hire a lawyer, but other than that I think you are in a difficult situation. Predatory publishers are not known for their cooperation.

I would like to know about this journal – Advances in biosensors and bioelectronics – http://www.seipub.org/abb/. I didn’t read this blog before submitting a manuscript. Now, it is accepted and they have asked me to pay a fee as publication fees. After reading the blog I don’t really know if I proceed with the publication. Please suggest as to what I should do now.

Here’s what I write back to these folks:

Dear Dr. ….

Thank you for your interest in my research. I would be very pleased to help you integrate my research into your offerings.

I’ve set up a net 30 billing log for ResearchMedia. My fee is usually $1000/day (plus expenses), but as you represent a non-profit research organization, I can offer you my discounted rate of $800/day or $4000/week (plus expenses, of course). You may put me in touch at your convenience with the person with whom I will be working on this interesting project. I’ve pre-clocked one day, which should cover the preliminaries.

I bill on the first of each month, net 30. Is your email address the correct one to bill? If not, please give me the correct billing address.

Your reply to this email, or any further communication from ResearchMedia representatives regarding this project, will constitute agreement to these terms.

I look forward to assisting you in this project.

Best,
…..

I recommend that you withdraw the manuscript and seek a better publisher. This journal's publisher, <em>Science and Engineering Publishing Company</em>, is included on my list of questionable publishers.

some of the western journals charging more than 200$ for publication as processing fee and other charges. How many academicians from Asian countries can afford for thier publications. Mr Bell statements are degrading the Indian science and its publications. every one should condemn this type of statements.
