Comment on Bell Press Now on Beall’s List by Ademola D. Adeyeye

My experience with Bell Press is very similar to that of Joshua. Bellpress got (I do not know how they got my paper) my paper which I had withdrawn from iiste after acceptance. Bellpress published it with a fake author (Abdul-Baqi Antar) but retained my affiliation. I have written many mails to bellpress without acknowledgement or response. My withdrawn paper was presented at NIIE conference and had appeared in the proceedings (2012) before its appearance in bellpress journal (2013) (http://niie.org.ng/sites/default/files/NIIE%202012%20PROCEEDINGS%20f%20sent.pdf) It seems Bellpress has closed its website since its exposure but googlescholar still keep referring to the articles. It appears there was a kind of collaboration between the staff/editors/ of iiste and bellpress. Now we see that two withdrawn papers from iiste have appeared in bellpress journals. May be more of such cases are still coming. Since bellpress has gone into hiding since its exposure I think googlescholar should remove every reference to bellpress journals from its database

Dear Ademola,
Thanks for sharing this. The website for bell press was not available today when I visited it. With no doubt, IISTE is linked with bell press much as IISTE denies. But it is still good that IISTE knows that researchers know it’s misconduct,. Because negative comments will reduce revenues at IISTE, I know this behavior will be stopped.
Is it possible for google scholar to delete these pages? If yes, what can we do?
Regards

Why do you feel this is not a real name. I support your blog for the information on fraudulent OA publishers but I don’t get it why you have targeted this publisher. I find any bad activity from this publisher.

You can never list Elsevier, As you are scared of them suing you for negative publicity without any proof.

I generally limit my lists to open-access publishers. While Elsevier does have some OA journals, it is not known as an OA publisher.

Dear Joshua,
Now that the shady practices of Bell Press have been exposed and it is in the public domain, google scholar will soon be aware of it. Besides, we may inform google scholar.
Cheers

You seem to have received a Cease & Desist notice which is without basis.

The ‘Chilling Effects’ database collects such curiosities.

For example, this notice hosted by Chilling Effects http://www.chillingeffects.org/protest/notice.cgi?NoticeID=33101 originates from an educational institution in the same country as GSTF and has similar Google colors (which may all just incidental).

That C&D has been filed under the category ‘protests’, which is to say that it attempts to ‘chill’ digital protests. In your case it would be categorized differently, of course.

When there is no basis, you shouldn’t have to self-censor. In the example case, the protest site http://www.forabettergiis.blogspot.com/ remains readable despite the C&D notice.

I would recommend that you hire a consultant in scholarly publishing for help in improving your journal. This journal is not on my list.
