Okay, are you aware that Photon's The Journal of Public Health has no editorial board, and the editor-in-chief, Andy Stephens, is a made-up name?

Do you have any insight on the publisher “European Society for Translational Medicine” http://www.eutranslationalmedicine.org/ and/or their journal “New Horizons in Translational Medicine”?

The website states that authors can expect a decision or revision request within 2 weeks of manuscript receipt, and also that “After acceptence of manuscript, author will get an invoice for relevant publication/designing charges which should be paid before further processing of the manuscript” but I see no mention of the fees.

Their so-called Executive and Advisory Board lists look suspicious.

Thank you for providing this valuable service to the research community!

No, I haven’t heard of this journal before, but your excellent observations certainly have raised my eyebrows. I am going to give this journal a full analysis. They require copyright transfer, yet they charge an undisclosed fee. If you want a PDF of an article you have to pay, but they are available for free on the annoying flash viewer. This is highly questionable. Thanks for letting me know about it.

Sir,

Please need your comments on this website http://www.penseejournal.com/. They are using the name of Pensee Journal. Please confirm if it is the actual Pensee journal or not?

It is fake! Please do not submit any articles to this journal. It is a hijacked journal.

Dear Jeffrey Beall
Did you already take a look at the publisher “Science and Education Centre of North America” (http://www.todayscience.org/). One thing that made me suspicious is that they registered their domain through “DomainsByProxy.com” in order to hide their identity.
Thanks a lot for your great work,
Arne

Yes, and I do have this publisher included on my list. I agree that hiding the domain name registration data is suspicious. Thanks very much.

With regards to Harvey Kane’s comment-while Dr. Narwal’s behavior is unethical, perhaps this brings a new tool to light to use against predatory journals. If a scientist gets a request to serve on the editorial board or review a paper for a bogus journal, send them a bill first! I suggest charging at least the same fee that they charge someone to publish the paper. I wonder how many will agree to pay for our time?
Unfortunately, it is probably illegal to scam the scam artists…

Jeffrey, in my experience, UK addresses do not include a comma after the house number.

Dear Jeffrey Beall

I feel very happy to work with you in disseminating the list of preadatory publishers through my website,www.connecttask.com and some social media.I am very glad to notice that many visitors read your list from my site everyday.
I have a suggestion to you.Could you make a list of genuine non-paying and paying journals? If such lists are published the scientists/researchers can submit their articles safely without any risk.
I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

Dr.Syed Md.Zainul Abedin

International Journal of Applied Science and Technology (IJAST) is published by the Center for Promoting Ideas, and this publisher is on my list of questionable publishers. I strongly recommend that you NOT submit your paper to this journal.

This is simply a suggestion, but maybe one that could lead to some clues. Punch in the key words coat of arms and then add USA or another country, then check out the image results in Yahoo or Google. Then, you may start to get closer to image comparisons for the background coat of arms. If you then look at the banner style, well, some interesting resemblance (text style) to The US Government’s Justice Department: http://www.justice.gov/. This doesn’t mean that the site header + background logo of this new initiative are not valid, or original. They probably are. They may simply be mimicking official institutional web-sites’ styles. But this alone does not make them predatory or fake in any way. The predatory nature should be demonstrated through other means that are related to academic and publishing aspects. Except for the Donate button, which needs to be questioned, not condemned, I agree that the names of the two entities seem to lack legitimacy. And indeed, William is a man, not Mrs. As for the legitimacy of the 52 journals, they should not be judged before they have been given a fair chance to start publishing.

I have just come across your list for 2014, and I wish I had done so earlier. I have published 2 articles recently, one in “Advances in entomology”, and another in “International j of entomological research”.
Could you please let me know if these are predatory, so I wont publish there again?
Thank you so much, and keep up the good work.
Best wishes.

Yes, Advances in Entomology is included on my list of questionable publishers. However, International Journal of Entomological Research is published by a firm called eSci, and this publisher is not on list.

“Other examples of hidden institutional ethnocentrism can be found in the channels of academic communication, such as journals. Howitt and Owusu- Bempah (1994) report that they ‘have been told by white journal editors that the language we use in academic papers is unacceptable and has to be toned- down or removed as a condition of acceptance for publication’ (p. 136). Asking for a change in tone, streamlining arguments and other revisions can be used as an instrument to censor papers that use a different voice. This is not censorship in a crude way but it expresses the ‘repressive tolerance’ of Western academia, according to which papers are accepted as long as they are palatable to the mainstream.” Teo and Febbraro (2003)

I also agree with Galuh and Husain, Mr. Jeffary is bias to journals from underdeveloped countries and developing countries. The journals that have mentioned all details on website, takes copyright before publication, review is competent and indexed in reputed databases are also listed in predatory journals. I can advice that attempt Mr. Jeffery is good,;but, Mr. Jeffery should recheck the information to release new list; otherwise, the authenticity of this list will be lost.
