God job you have done here. But I noticed you listed academic journal as predatory but one of its journals (african journal of pharmacy and pharmacology) is on the 2013 journal citations report by thomas reuters. Do it mean a publisher can be predatory and its journal not?

Dear Jeffrey,

Thank you very much for the frequent update on predatory journals.

Today I have one query i.e. about the European Scientific Journal . I could not find it in the list of predatory journals. They say the journal is affiliated with the *University of the Azores, Portugal. *

*Someone from our university published two articles (one in August 2013 Volume 9 number 23 and another in November 2013, Volume 9 number 31) and requested for promotion. *

*Would you please share the status of this journal? *

*With regards*

*Mulugeta *

Dear Jeffrey,

As usual, you bring us news of the awful, and I just had to see how bad the noledge can be.

I couldn’t get past the first page of tripe, but did find an interesting detail that might be worth further examination: the journal claims to be protected by something alled:

That journal is not on my list. I have analyzed it, but I didn’t find that it met the predatory criteria.

Yes, the publisher Academic Journals is on my list. I think Thomson Reuters is mistaken in assigning an impact factor to this journal.

With regard to the African journal of pharmacy and pharmacology, i could be reading it wrong but it seems to me it appeared as indexed in 2011 but not 2012 (2013 not released yet).

I agree that it’s borderline. I try not to add borderline publishers to my list, trying to err on the side of caution. I’m happy to hear reasons why you think it should be on the list. Thanks.

I nominate Cambridge Scholars Press to list of Predatory Publishers. Sent them ms. and they asked for us to do our own copy editing. Paid $14000 to do so, only to have CSP ask for more, and pay $1500 more. MS. was top notch to begin with. This is a case of a publisher who off loads the cost of proof and editing to the authors. We put a year into trying to please them. Turns out they only have quality control people, not actual proof readers or copy editors. You either use their list of recommended contractors, or go through the loop of quality control, again and again until you do.

Please, tell me about International Journal of Energy and Environment IJEE. I do not see this in your list. Can I consider as authentic for publications.

They seem to be very productive and crank out more than 1 issue per month (4 in December and 3 in January) which cover an enormous breath of disciplinary content while maintaining “the review procedure usually takes 7-10 days”

At 97 € per article its APC is not excessive.

The Azores University (a Portuguese state university) connection would seem to be genuine although the company itself looks like it is based in Macedonia (according to on their payment procedure).

Some researchers including my students sent some works to this journal because of the long publishing years and impact factor shown in the website. However, they did not show full paper but abstract. I tried to write to Thompson with no success. We could not resent this work to other journal because of the abstract already shown online. Would appreciate if there are suggestions of what to do with it.

I suggest you to investigate “Indian journal of clinical practice” ISSN 0971-0876 and include it in your list.
