Comment on List of Predatory Publishers 2014 by Mohammad

Hi,

The ISI impact factor of “International Journal of Photoenergy” in 2013 JCT is reported as 2.663.
However, it is an open access journal which means it requires an “Article Processing Charge” (currently being $1200 per article), and also perhaps a much faster and easier publication!

Good luck.

I cannot really analyze this publisher. Most of the text is in Persian. There’s not enough there for me to analyze.

Your report is severely mistaken. Instead of the torrent of hysteria above I actually tried to download a few papers. If you select any article published in this journal and click on “Abstract”, you see a button to download the paper So why is there an option to pay hundreds of dollars for a download? Beats me, but I think there are people dumb enough to do that.

Please correct your error.

people who support open access publishing are either frauds or living with their head in the sand, not getting that traditional publishers like Elsevier are the best way to publish for authors today and will be the best way in the future. the sooner open access publishing stops, the better it will be for everyone.

I agree — this is a hijacked journal. I have added it to my list. Thank you very much for letting me know about it.

Interesting video. I hope the actor was well compensated.

Much of what he said made perfect sense> Unfortunately there is no evidence that this specific publisher meets any of the evaluation criteria the actor is spouting.

In the end, I wonder how many of the authors understand that this is pure pay to publish? For some of them there is no problem as long as their employers don’t care about the quality of the journal.

As a librarian, I want to know who the pay to publish title so we never purchase the title. I also have no reservation telling administrators and supervisors of researchers about these dodgy titles.

Perhaps a few folks given bad reviews or non-renewed contracts will be an example to the First World authors of the downside of using these journals.

I think that the Associated Asian Research Foundation is indeed a questionable publisher. It launched recently with ten new, broad journals. It promises a decision on your manuscript in three or six days (depending on which promise you read). It appears to have only a single editorial board for all the journals. I have added it to my list. I recommend against submitting papers to this publisher’s journals. Thanks for letting me know about it.

My advice to you is read more about open access publishing. If you can not find anything, I can refer you to an excellent article written by none other than Jeffrey Beall himself in which he has explored in-depth about this phenomenon and its effects on scholarly publishing (The Open Access Movement is Not Really about Open Access). Here is the link: http://triplec.at/index.php/tripleC/article/viewFile/525/514 I am sure that after reading this you will agree with everything I am saying – that open access is causing harm to scholars. Remember my comments because very soon in future when this whole thing blows up, you will understand the reality. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

Does this analysis extend to their conferences as well? Having looked at the previous years of VEHICULAR and people I know on the programme chairs there, I’ve just decided to accept being on the programme chair for that conference, so I’m curious to see what their internal processes look like…

Also, I just noticed that the factors are no longer there. Perhaps the publisher learned from being on your list. One can hope…

The evaluation was of the journals. But why would you want to associate yourself with a company that intentionally gave false information about its journals’ impact factors? They may be lying about the program chairs as well.

Well, I accepted because a colleague recommended me directly. Unfortunately it didn’t occur to me to look them up in your list — I read some of the previous papers, and they were nowhere near as bad as those I’ve seen in journals on your list, so I assumed they weren’t even going to be there. I’m sure about several of the names there actually being on the chair. Knowing other publishers like IEEE, the conferences and journals are quite separate. I’m hoping this is the case here too — or at least, that the publisher has improved since your previous analysis. Of course, I’ll let you know if I learn of anything fishy in their review process.
