Regarding the Indian Journal of Research, I have not analyzed this journal. Regarding the International Journal of Multidisciplinary Educational Research (IJMER), I have not analyzed this journal. Regarding the ZENITH International Journal of Multidisciplinary Research, I have not analyzed this journal or its publisher. Regarding the International Journal of Research in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management, this is published by the so-called Asian Research Consortium, and I have this publisher included on my list here: http://scholarlyoa.com/publishers/ Regarding the International Journal of Management Research and Review, I have not analyzed this publisher. I get the sense that you are examining a bunch of obviously low-quality journals hoping I will tell you that it is okay to publish in one of them. Please don't do that. Please try to find the best possible journals for your work. Talk to senior colleagues about which journals are the best in your field.

Correction: The Indian Journal of Research is published by a firm called The Global Journals, and I have this publisher on my list.

Another correction: Zenith is not an open-access publisher. To access the full content, one must subscribe. They also charge authors, so they make money both by publishing content and by selling it, a very greedy policy, in my opinion.

Thank you very much for this post, Jeffrey. This article got me thinking about author affiliation, and I emailed MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory to see what they think of one of their researchers publishing in Entropy. I don’t know if you’re interested in what they have to say, but I can let you know when I hear back from them, if you like.

Sharon H. asked me to connect on LinkedIn, and it sounded fishy to me so I declined. I already declined once a few weeks ago, and then a couple days later it popped up again. Was ignoring it but it annoyed me so I wanted to get rid of it. Maybe this time it will stick… That or I will have to block them.
Glad this is out here. Super thanks to Jeff for having this on the Interwebs for a quick find after the Skeptical alarm started going off.
It’s scary but not all that surprising that this exists… The unsinkable rubber ducky of science publishing scams.

Since the end of the 19th century, it has become increasingly difficult to publish ‘scientific’ theories to legitimize racism. It might be that sketchy journals have become the only way, along with ‘studies’ showing how vaccines cause autism or how AIDS can be cured with huckleberries.

I am currently stuck in one of these meetings. Although I was aware of their poor quality, I accepted to participate because I was invited by a scientist that I know. Horrendous organization and is terribly sad to see people coming fro across the globe to sit in empty sessions, or sessions without speakers. Apparently OMICS never take out from the program speakers that have notified that they will not come to the meeting…another big problem for them to solve.

It means that I recommend that researchers avoid the publishers on my list and submit their work instead to higher quality journals and publishers. My aim is to help researchers avoid being victimized by questionable publishers.

Under U.S. law, “Joint authors hold equal and full copyright in the work.” Are you sure this wasn’t a “work made for hire”? You many need a lawyer to sort this out. I don’t know of any similar cases, but they may well exist.

Dr. Bormann, actually, SciDoc Publishers is on my list here. Perhaps you were searching in the standalone journal list? Sorry for the confusing website. I do recommend avoiding this publisher. Kind regards.

Comment on An Editorial Board Mass-Resignation — from an Open-Access Journal by Steve Carr

It is increasingly apparent to me that the Dark Side of Open Access Journals is the existence of what I now call Vanity Science, where myself and colleagues are solicited to join the editorial boards of newly-fledged OA journals, and (or) attend boutique “science meetings” with high registration fees, where the hotel meeting rooms are filled with 30+ meeting with 20 attendees each. [I was in town for a major legitimate meeting, this one occurred over the same days, and the organizers instantly discounted registration if only I would speak].

I have received multiple invitations from International Reviews in saccharinly flattering letters, which set off all the alarm bells, and which I was pleased to see exposed on this blog last year.

Given all this, it should be noted that different disciplines do things differently. I have lately begun publishing work in computational biology, with respected members of our CompSci department as co-authors, and I have been repeatedly assured that standard practice in that discipline is rapid publication of communications in conference proceedings. I was reassured when our MS was picked up by Elsevier for extended treatment and book-chapter publication.
