Among the many bizarre findings here, this is one of may favorites!

GS: weirdly, I sometimes find it useful for analyuzing dubious papers that sneak through into legitimate journals, and then seeing of citations show up in non-indexed places more than in indexed ones, a tipoff.

Thank you Jeffrey. I’m not based in the US so I don’t want to go down the road to consulting an attorney. I’m more interested in best preserving the integrity of the article, which people have told me is a valid and interesting opinion piece, so that it can be read with some credibility.

So let’s say a) I don’t pay the ransom. What impact will having the article published through MedCrave have in my personal credibility. Can I mitigate this in some way (e.g. by asking them to add a declaration of interest saying I did not pay to have this article published, or by writing a counter piece in a forum such as Retraction Watch)?

Or bay b) I do pay the ransom and the article is withdrawn. Why would I have difficulty getting the article republished? How could I mitigate this?

Thanks, ART

It’s a long shot but I’m wondering if perhaps SCIRP has been pwned.

“Ack” is the monosyllabic utterance of the Martians in the marvellous documentary (cough) ‘Mars Attacks’, and it seems somewhat coincidental that these apparently important management principles bear an onomatopœic resemblance to the language in the movie.

Of course, the authors may actually be on to something profound!

I would not pay the ransom.
Sometimes very strong articles appear in weak journals. Hopefully, in this case, the article will outshine the journal.

Alex – you make good points about keyword searches and things which don’t show up on Web of Science. However, I still think they shouldn’t include content from obvious crank/predatory publications. As you point out, qualified scientists can usually spot bad papers and journals, but not everyone who uses Google Scholar is a scientist. Among other things, people may use it quickly to verify citations and references.

Nobody puts the name of the institution after their name, I have never seen anyone do MSc (Coventry) on their postnomial. Unless this editor thinks having UK after his name makes him look more respectable.

Although by UK standards, Bradford isn’t exactly a top university by a long shot

Also noticed something.

The contact details for the two store clerks, they have +1 numbers for their contacts, +1 is the US not Canada which is 011

When the invite arrives, it’s best to keep the Groucho Marx quote in mind: “I DON’T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER.”

While the Journal appears to be of poor quality, the supposed editors are not “clerks at drugstore chains”. In the US, a Staff Pharmacist has to have a degree in Pharmacy, complete an internship, pass the Board exam, and keep their license thru continuing education credits. The degree is post-baccalaureate (Pharm. D), so that means 3 years (usually) after the B.S. They are quite capable of writing and reviewing research in their field, since that is usually a requirement for the Pharm. D. Canada has similar requirements.
So, when you go to your neighborhood pharmacy, please realize that those overworked folks behind the glass know a huge amount about pharmacology and drug interactions. Here in California, you can request a consult about your script with the Pharmacist; I am not sure about other states. It’s too bad most customers only interact with the pharmacy tech that enters the order.

Canada’s country code is 1, same as the US.

011 is what you dial when in Canada to call overseas.

Nothing strange about the place. What’s strange is that their acronym is missing a D.

Intellectual Consortium of Drug Discovery & Technology Development Incorporation (ICDTD Inc.)

I’m pretty sure that “Incorporation” is the legal process; the resulting legal entity (the corporation) might attach “Incorporated” or Inc. to its name. No indication on their website of the articles of incorporation, so I begin so suspect that the “Inc” here is for cosmetic value rather than conveying any legal implications.

The CANAJAS.COM domain is held by Dr Taha Nazir (tahanazir@yahoo.com) — Executive Editor of the J.App.Pharm, and Scientific Executive of ICDTD — with an address at a low-rise block of flats:
34-115 V North Saskatoon SK Canada
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7L3E4

Dr Taha Nazir was previously President of the Pakistan Pharmacist Federation, and associated with the University of Sargodha. Which at least explains the Canadian / Pakistan nature of the project.

The list of predatory journals is very long. Several questions occur in my mind. Why these journals have grown in number? Who gave opportunity to unscrupulous elements to flourish?….

The claimed hijacked Journal Wulfenia accepted my manuscript which is related to Mechanical Engineering and requested a payment with no identification to method of payment even after I contacted the Editorial board. Because of the above list and some credible reports about methods of research and journal hijacking. I decided to filter this journal out from my e-mail address and to resubmit my manuscript to another authentic journal. May Allah bless those who made this list available to general readers. Thanks to Allah.
