This is NOT a predatory journal. I think it is a fine journal. It does not meet the criteria for being classed as a predatory journal.

Sorry. Where is the evidence to show there was no peer review process? I know the acceptance for a manuscript from reputable journals can be less than three days. It may be the case that the journal editors have relevant expertise in the field and can review very fast.

For the publication charge, it is expensive though.

Was just solicited by ‘Mary Thompson’. ‘She’ first reached out in LinkedIn, then sent me a message once I accepted (which I obviously shouldn’t have). The message was in broken English, asking me in several different ways to submit articles. I think you are right that they are an offshoot of Omics group, because I had similar experiences with them… and they still keep soliciting me for publications, and claiming that I have participated in their meetings when I did not.

Thanks Jeff for the work you are doing!

Dear Mr. Beall,
As you said that Life Science Journal is OK, I was interested in the journal and downloaded the instruction to authors (I click Introduction). The publication cost is 640 USD (rather expensive, I think), and at the last page bottom, there is a website address: http://www.sciencepub.net, I was curious, as in your list (Jan 2014):

Science Publications
Science Publishing Group
Science Publishing Corporation

is labelled a predatory, so I enter the website, and found that the publisher is: Marsland Press, and it is in your list of predatory publisher of Jan 2014.

So, do you still think that “Life Science Journal” is fine?

No, I made a mistake and confused this journal with another one.
I am sorry for this mistake.
Thank you very much for your helpful correction.

So as I’ve understood the Life Science Journal isn’t so good and considered to be predatory, but is it still cited in Scopus or Thomson then? I’m confused…

I also got one of these invitations to be an editor. It was for there new Frontiers in Mathematics, except that I’m not qualified to be a reviewer. Their website makes frequent reference to their reviewers being top-notch in there field, and I have to regard this as a lie.

Dear, Jeffrey Beall,
I would like to know about springer open access journal, Advances in Difference Equations It has impact factor of 0.76. I have noticed it is publishing very low grade articles on taking a reasoanbley high money. You can see many papers in this journal with title local behaviour, global behaviour, dynamics of discrete loteka Volterra model etc……. I fear this journal is doing wrong what is your opinion in this regard

Thank you for this comment. I can tell you is that neither this journal nor its publisher are on my lists. I can;t remember hearing any criticism of the journal before. The actual amount of the article processing charge is not a criterion for determining a particular journal is predatory. If you see ethical or other concerns with the individual articles, you may want to bring these to the attention of the editor. Thanks.

The two journals discussed in the thread have JCR impact factors, but a key indicator that something is fishy with these journals is their self-citation values (“self cites to years used in impact factor calculation”): 60% for Life Sci. J., and 44% for Arch. Biol. Sci.

This is published by the Cairo-based publisher Hindawi, which is not on my list. I think the impact factor they claim is legitimate.

Right, this journal, Research Journal of Pharmaceutical, Biological and Chemical Sciences (RJPBCS), does indeed make a lot of claims. It (falsely) claims to have an impact factor of 0.35, for example. As you indicate, it may claim that it will be cataloged (not indexed) in the NLM online catalog soon, but this is not a measure of quality. I find this broad-scope journal to be amateurish and recommend that scholars find a more professional venue for their work.

How could charging for reviewing a paper becomes unethical when article processing charge is ethical ? One mistake which Dr.Narwal did was not finalising the deal before accepting to review a paper. But then this is a question to all reviewers.
